Pre-intervention study report on awareness campaign for Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling HTMS (Baluchistan)

The two districts of Baluchistan Province of Pakistan i.e. Killah Abdullah-Chamman and Quetta, serve as gateway to one of the most significant business/ trade city of Kandahar in Afghanistan. Due to an extensively long border between Pakistan and Afghanistan, the route is also being used for Migrant Smuggling. HTMS has been among the significant issues faced by Pakistan. Due to the nature of the crimes associated with HTMS and its trans-boundary effect, Pakistan has suffered a lot, bringing down its repute in international community.

A Pre-Intervention study was conducted in the two targeted districts of Balochistan: Quetta and Killa Abdullah-Chamman, which aimed to identify the existing level of awareness on HTMS. Apart from individual interviews, KIIs and FGDs were also conducted with different stakeholders. The awareness campaign regarding Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling (HTMS) was planned to be implemented by UNODC in partnership with Federal Intelligence Agency (FIA) while the study was conducted by the research team of CHRS. UNODC launched the awareness campaign in a number of HTMS hotspots in Pakistan using digital and print media as well as text messages. After the intervention, a post intervention survey was also conducted by CHRS on behalf of UNODC which showed the learning of the participants and the outcomes.

The result of the survey indicated that there is huge gap in awareness level of the people in terms of understanding HTMS and its implications and post intervention survey which showed their learning. All done in collaboration with UNODC and campaign launched in trafficking hotspots using digi media, print media, texts etc.
